Recorded a few days before Christmas, Jon and Andy discuss the closing of a chapter... It revolves largely around the sale of Jon's E39 5 Series, whether he will get another, and the process behind picking a CD to leave behind, as a token... Just as he remembers a Billy Ocean cassette in his Dad's car from years ago.
It's short and sweet, but we hope you enjoy it.

[00:00:00] Welcome to My Dads Car, enjoy! Welcome to My Dads Car, a podcast discussing our personal relationship with all the modes of the Establer.
[00:00:18] And you know what? It doesn't even have to be about your Dads car. You can be your moms, your grans, your parents, gardens or even a neighbours. If it made an impression, let's talk about it. Hello, hello. How are we doing?
[00:00:37] Well, yeah, I was in the middle of putting out a big wash. Is there always fun? Kids seem to enjoy being here, over Christmas, don't they? That's you've noticed that. My mind is every year it seems. Version 2's literally just got an over weeks worth of temperature.
[00:00:54] Oh no, version 1's coughing consistently. Lovely. Yeah. I was blue. It was good. Yeah. Yeah, it wasn't like we thought as we said it might just be people in sort of blue costumes. Yeah. People sort of orchestrating blue costumes. No, there's anything quite like it to be honest.
[00:01:13] Like puppetry. Yeah, but like puppets are size of you. Okay. But no, it worked. It was good. He sort of forget that the puppeteers were there and then you just kind of... Yeah, yeah. Once it's all going off. That no, the kids enjoyed it. That's the main thing.
[00:01:28] Super. I think one of the better kids programs from an adult's point of view. Yeah. It's got some sort of Simpson like charms isn't it to it? Yeah. It's sort of undertones with sort of adult humour definitely. Yeah. Yeah. I recommend that.
[00:01:41] Yeah. We're going to have a quick chat when we because there's some news in the BMW camp. There is. Yeah. Yeah. So I know the rounds, the BMW, which is funny enough. I just came home and I had the confirmation slip of change of ownership.
[00:01:57] So it's not changed as mine then. It's not. And the kids were under that box. It popped in back. Yeah. Driven all the way back from Devon just to give them back personally. Drip triumphant drive. Yeah. Yeah. So it's gone. Went last Sunday.
[00:02:13] Yeah. So about a week ago. Yeah. So I sat at time after six years of ownership. But it's gone down to Cornwall with Gye called Sam. It seems very much into the car, which is pleasing. I think it's going to take good care of it. Yeah.
[00:02:27] I was clearly enjoying driving it when I was driving for the last time. Yeah. In fact, when I drive it sort of week or two before, just sort of give it a run. Shops he didn't work because the battery went flat in the end.
[00:02:39] Yeah. I went around the block once and then I was going to just park it up. But I was just enjoying it so much. I went around again. And we had a little bit of a joke. Didn't wait beforehand about whether or not you'd just agree
[00:02:50] at cassette somewhere in the vehicle. Yeah. So in the cassette holder, it's got one of those things that you put. The cassette and it's got a lead coming off it for like a jack plug, if you're eye phone or whatever. Yeah. There's one of those in there.
[00:03:03] But as a CD changer in the boot, so as discussed, yeah, I thought I'd leave something in as a sort of partying gift. How did it feel to step into the shoes of that type of character? It was weird. Yeah. Yeah. It felt quite devious. But so yeah.
[00:03:22] A few days before, I was sort of tracing around the charity shop, just looking through their CD collection. Was there any part of you which would thought I'd stitch him up? Yeah. Definitely because like I said to you, when I was about a century
[00:03:32] a few pictures didn't know from the charity shop. Yeah. There's some cracking material in there sort of Victoria Beckhams. Yeah. The 17. Brenda the show. Victoria Beckham. Exactly. Yeah. A lot of the sort of original pop idol materials there. Yeah.
[00:03:51] And in the end, it's a toss-up between FEDER and the Ver. I went for the Ver, I think, just because in terms of when that came out of him, it was quite close to the same production date of the car. So I thought it's kind of fitting. Yeah.
[00:04:04] Maybe that should be an arm-written rule. Yeah. We've sort of debating on what we're doing. Definitely. I think it's a good thing to do. And also we're encouraging purchasing from charity shops, exactly. And it's recycling those CDs.
[00:04:15] There must be so many CDs that just get sent to landfill every year. Yeah. The worth of something. Pretty much sadly. I've got boxes and boxes and them. I won't throw them away. But so you'll heat your eye off with urban hymns in the city of the change.
[00:04:30] I don't know if you found it or not. You might have just been going with these iPhone. Guess if his phone was doing satin ever whatever, then yeah. But now you message me once he got back and said, Oh, it was good. I mentioned the album in there.
[00:04:41] So he's going to find that one day hopefully. Before we just throw it straight away, he's a young guy. That else is. It's a bit like a message in a bottle, isn't it? Yeah. Talk it in. Shack it in the sea. Yeah.
[00:04:55] Do know he might find it in a week. He might find it in two years. It might skip his ownership completely. The next owner will get into it and then pot off down the road. Probably turn out as like a limit in addition to CD.
[00:05:06] It ended up being worth more than the vehicle. Signed by Richard Ashcroft and he'll be chasing me for the box. Oh, that was the other question wasn't it? It's whether if you left the box in the glove box, you kind of left a bit of a clue. Yeah.
[00:05:19] Yeah. I've got the box. I think they're actually part of it. You just leave the CD on the top. You definitely don't take the box. I know why. Just feels right, isn't it? Yeah. Generally speaking, yeah, you'd fill up the dischanger.
[00:05:31] Wouldn't you probably wouldn't put the cases in the glove box? Then obviously when you take that one out, you end up with the wrong disk in the wrong case. That's it. Yeah. Which then becomes quite a sort of domino effect, doesn't it?
[00:05:43] A rock line into another into another into another. Until the moment that you sell the vehicle and then you sort of bring it through the house looking for the cases for or, yeah, why can't I find this particular CD? Yeah. Where's it gone? Stitched up.
[00:05:58] Yeah. I think that's probably my, but then same up in my last four ay into classic BMWs. Mm. Potentially. But who knows? Yeah. See what happens with car on I guess. Yeah. True. Isn't there room where that like if someone else gets in there
[00:06:12] going to scrap you, ladies? I've heard. I can't remember. Lady, I think. I suppose that a big good way of getting votes wouldn't it, saying that you're going to do that. And then just yeah, true. They're probably not going to do it, but then just lie.
[00:06:24] And you'd have to be very unlike a politician. They wouldn't possibly do that with day. Well, on occasion, they might sort of tell the occasional pork. You might end up being the truth slightly. I saw a link. I don't know where I saw it.
[00:06:37] But it was like proper clickbait of our U-List scrapped. Then I went into the story and it was just about how U-List won't be operate on Christmas Day, which you never does. It's free to drive and Christmas Day. Oh, is it really? Yeah.
[00:06:51] I was seeing that big great opportunity for anyone that hasn't got any family. There's got a classic car. You can start off a nice little club. Couldn't you look at Christmas Day and central London somewhere? Yeah. Rev it around the city. It's congestion charge not on either them.
[00:07:03] So you can, you're free to go here. I don't know about that. Okay. There are too many to keep up with Andy. To be honest. Yeah. Unfortunately, yeah, for the 12 pound 50, it saved me. I just, I'd spent about 50 quid getting there and back.
[00:07:15] If I took the Porsche to town, exactly. Yeah. Yeah. I probably give it a pass this year for air enough. I did a courtesy after that. It expense on the Citron. I could just kept the BMW and paid the U-List and been better off for a good while.
[00:07:28] But so, hey, hi. Yeah, otherwise you'd just end up, yeah. You've got the ongoing maintenance cost of that vehicle, haven't you? Yeah. And a vehicle just sat around just likes to break. Yeah. Definitely. It's 100% the right decision for me to part with it.
[00:07:43] Because you know, three cars is one hard to make. And it just needs to be used at the end of the day and enjoyed. So I'm glad that it's going somewhere where it will be freely enjoyed with no restrictions or anything. Mm. Lovely. Okay.
[00:07:59] Thank you very much, Tom. See you later. Wrong credits. Thank you for listening to my doubts card. I actually enjoyed the show. Please support us. Pause the coffee and subscribe. And turn on your friends.
