Alex recalls an eclectic succession of family cars, from a Mercedes W123 and Triumph Acclaim to a Citroën XM estate large enough to sleep in during a trip to the British Grand Prix. He also reflects on his father’s racing ambitions, entrepreneurial side projects and determination after losing his job, including buying the rights to a 1950s-inspired kit car based on a Triumph Spitfire chassis.
The conversation also covers memorable cars owned by relatives, friends and neighbours, including a purple TVR Cerbera, a metallic-gold turbocharged Lexus and his grandfather’s imposing Daimler 6 in Cyprus. Alex shares memories of an Italian road trip with his father in an Alfa Romeo 159, the music his mother embraced to connect with him, and his dream of one day owning a Ferrari Boxer.
At its heart, this episode is about much more than machinery. It is a warm story of family, resilience and the lasting bond created by a shared love of cars.
